Welcome to The Museum of the American G.I.
Welcome to our website for the Museum of the American GI, Inc. We endeavor to keep living history of the American Serviceman who proudly served our country and continue to do so today. We are a 501 c (3) organization and proudly work to maintain historical equipment that has been used to keep our nation free and provide historical re enactments.
All the sections for the restoration of the Iwo Jima, LPH-2 island are finally here and ready for the reassembly. The plan is to assemble the structure along side the parking lot, with the parking lot taking on the appearence of the flight deck, marking the parking lot just as the deck of the original ship was done. The restoration of the Iwo Jima island is being carried out with the greatly appreciated help of Texas A&M University, architectural department. The museum also obtained a Grove TM-875 80T crane for the project. Originally the USS Iwo Jima was a helicopter carrier and eventually we hope to line the edges of the parking lot, flight deck, with helicopters of that era.
